Technically, a building envelope is the physical separators between the conditioned and unconditioned environment of a building including the resistance to air, water, heat, light, and noise transfer. Simply put, the building envelope consists of everything that makes up the shell of the building. It is the building’s wall system, doors, windows, roofs, slabs, foundations, basements, balconies, and storefronts.
